Upon further penetrating, I found that even our body produces steroids, anyway they are in moderate amounts and are generally required by our body. Now and then because of wellbeing conditions, steroids are suggested by wellbeing specialists albeit over measurement has its reactions. Now, I recalled that my grandma had rheumatoid joint pain and specialists prescribed oral steroids to her. Another intriguing article grabbed my attention about infusion of steroids in human food by cows and vegetation ranchers. Neighborhood ranchers are liberally utilizing steroids so as to create solid animals that can be offered to business food makers who give off an impression of being mindful of the substance of meat and other characteristic produce that they are purchasing (Atwell n.p). Since I am profoundly cognizant about my wellbeing and abstain from taking nourishments that will in general have fake flavors, additives and food colorings, this reality was very upsetting. A broad investigation of the issue by web and library-based research helped me comprehend the circumstance and expanded my enthusiasm for utilization of steroids by food makers and unsafe impacts of steroids on human body.... Dansk Designs, Ltd. :: essays research papers

Dansk Designs Ltd., established in 1955, is an organization that business sectors treated steel flatware. The firm generally followed a technique of separation. They produce top notch items for the â€Å"top of the table†. Their objective was to arrive at a little market section, which comprised of privileged, esteemed clients. Dansk Designs needed to sell the idea of the Dansk brand, and accepted their buyers would buy the Dansk items as a result of the unmistakable brand name and in light of the fact that the items were the absolute best in taste and quality. Ted Nierenberg, the author of Dansk Designs has as of late concluded that he needs to keep Dansk developing at 15% to 20% every year. Nierenberg feels as though his present product offering won't give adequate development to meet his destinations, and trusts it is in the company’s wellbeing to present another line of house product items called Dansk Gourmet Designs Ltd. Nierenberg accepts they should advertise th is new line to an a lot more extensive gathering of purchasers at serious costs. In any case, I accept that in spite of the fact that venturing into another market with another product offering will build momentary incomes, over the long haul it will be unfavorable in light of the fact that the new line will weaken the brand character of Dansk Designs. On the off chance that Nierenberg needs to develop each year 15% to 20%, I accept he ought to consider approaches to bring down expenses as opposed to expanding volume and incomes.      Traditionally, Dansk Designs followed a technique of separation. At the point when a firm follows this technique, they make contrasts in the firm’s item or administration by making something that is seen as extraordinary and esteemed by clients. Separation can take numerous structures, including esteem or brand picture, which Dansk chose to actualize. Their product offering comprises of eight item classes, which incorporate flatware, china, cloth, glass, decorator cookware, and wooden dishes and plate. Their items are of high caliber and are profoundly estimated. Dansk had the option to accomplish a separation advantage in light of the fact that their cost premiums surpassed the additional expenses of being interesting. Dansk can make these exceptional items due to the gifted planners they utilize, including Jens Quisrgaard, Niels Refsgaard, and Gunnar Cyren. Another upper hand of a system of separation is the capacity to manage provider power. There is a sure m easure of status related with being the provider to a maker of separated items. Dansk’s head provider, Richard Nissen, has delighted in working with Dansk in light of the fact that he accepts they have had the option to â€Å"preserve the carefully assembled nature of the products†.

Self-Serving Bias as a Defense Mechanism

Blend Images/Ariel Skelley/Getty Images More in Theories Cognitive Psychology Behavioral Psychology Developmental Psychology Personality Psychology Social Psychology Biological Psychology Psychosocial Psychology Self-serving bias is how social psychologists describe humans’ tendency to blame external forces when bad things happen and to give ourselves credit when good things happen. Although it can mean evading personal responsibility for your actions, self-serving bias is a defense mechanism that protects your  self-esteem.   When Self-Serving Bias Occurs Let’s say you ace an exam. The self-serving bias would lead you to believe that its because you studied hard. If you failed, on the other hand, you might believe it was because the teacher didnt explain the subject correctly, the classroom was too warm, or your roommate kept you up all night before the exam. All of these things may be true, but they’re not painting a complete picture of all the circumstances that led to your performance on the test. Examples of Self-Serving Bias Following a car accident, both parties involved blame the other driver for causing the crash. After a disastrous meeting with a potential client, a businessman blames losing the account on a competitors dirty business practices.A high school basketball player makes a throw during the final seconds of a game and manages to make a basket. He attributes this to his skill at the game. Why Self-Serving Bias Occurs In many cases, this cognitive bias allows you to protect your self-esteem. By attributing positive events to personal characteristics, you get a boost in confidence. By blaming outside forces for failures, you protect your self-esteem and absolve yourself from personal responsibility. A number of factors have been shown to influence the self-serving bias, including age and gender. Older adults tend to make more internal attributions, that is, credit themselves for their successes. Men are more likely to make external attributions, meaning they tend to blame outside forces for their failures. Often when a person is depressed or has low self-esteem, this kind of bias may be reversed: they’ll attribute positive outcomes to outside help or even luck, and blame themselves when bad things happen. Common Situations   Experts suggest that while this bias is quite widespread in Western cultures including the United States and Canada, it tends to be much less frequent in Eastern cultures like China and Japan. Why? Individualist cultures such as the U.S. place a greater emphasis on personal achievement and self-esteem, so protecting the self from feelings of failure is more important. ?On the other hand,  collectivist cultures,  such as tend to be found in Eastern cultures, are more likely to attribute personal success to luck and failures to lack of talent. There are some scenarios where self-serving bias is less likely. Some research has found that people in romantic relationships and close friendships tend to be more modest. Your friends or your partner, in other words, keep you in check with honest criticism about when a bad situation might be part of your own doing. Positive Side of Self-Serving Bias One advantage of this bias is that it leads people to persevere even in the face of adversity. An unemployed worker may feel more motivated to keep looking for work if he attributes his joblessness on a weak economy, for instance, rather than some personal failing. An athlete might feel more motivated to perform well if she believes that her failure during a previous event was the result of bad weather rather than a lack of skill. Life and Works of Marie Curie Free Essays

Marie Curie focused on the isolation of the elements that emitted radiation such as radium and not on the health benefits of radium. However, her discovery led to advancements in the world of medicine and further understanding on matter and energy. Years after her discovery, the atom was further structured by Ernest Rutherford due to her recognition that there are still energy created within the atom itself. Cancer is a disease caused by uncontrolled growth malignant cells that mutates due to external and internal factors such as tobacco, radiation, chemicals, inherited mutations, hormones, and etc. As of the year 2003, it is estimated that 10.5 million Americans were diagnosed with cancer and one out of four patients have died of cancer (American Cancer Society). This disease has taken the nation by storm and is now competing with heart attack as the leading cause of death in Americans. If it were not for the contributions of Marie Curie, cancer would have remained an untreatable disease and millions of humans would have died because of the disease. Her discovery of radiotherapy has benefited not only the soldiers in the 1st World War wherein she used radiation in curing wounds but the countless patients suffering from cancer in today’s generation through radiotherapy. Radiotherapy is a process in which radiation is used to kill cancer cells. Though the element radium is not used today since safer and more powerful sources of radiation are available, her discovery of radioactivity played a pivotal role in curing cancer. Radiotherapy capitalizes on controlled dosage of radiation to kill cancer cells by pointing an X-ray machine to the part infected by the malignant cells (Overgaard). This process in done along with chemotherapy and taking drugs that suppress cancer cells. However, this process also comes with certain risks since radiation can also kill normal cells and may cause side effects. Though this process is generally expensive, it is a price that most are willing to pay just to have another shot at life. Radium is also used in Brachytherapy, a process that is used to treat prostate cancer, endometrial cancer, cervical cancer, coronary artery disease and other localized cancers.   This is a form of radiology wherein a small amount of radioactive substance is implanted near the malignant cells so that the radiation will eventually kill the cancer cells. This process if often used for out patients and is used for over a century in curing cancer without having to resort to surgery (American Brachytherapy Society).   Ã‚  Brachytherapy is a cheap way of curing localized cancer and has benefited millions of cancer patients. Another use of radium is for self-luminous paints for watches, compass, microscopes, dials on aircrafts and other instruments. Since radium emits light on its own, it is very useful in saving energy since there is no need for electricity to light up these buttons (Burke, A Thurston,J.). At pres time, radium was replaced with safer elements that emit light. Stepping Up free essay sample

As I sat on one side of the circle, I could feel all the eyes gazing at me. All asked the same question, what are we doing. Just as I was on my first day of freshman year, there I was again two years later, nervous and unsure of what to do. I knew I had to step up and lead so that things could get done. The freshmen were waiting to hear how they, too, could survive their high school experience. They looked at me with knowing looks that told me I knew what to do and that I could answer their questions. By sharing my high school stories, I hoped that I could lead them in the right direction to make good choices. Leadership is an important and unique attribute to possess. Leaders are mentors. Leaders do not expect praise for their deeds. Leaders make things happen. Leaders are necessary. We will write a custom essay sample on Stepping Up or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page I show leadership so that there can be one more mentor or role model to admire. I’m involved in Link Crew; it is a leadership program where pairs of junior-senior students act as mentors to freshmen. My first year involved with Link Crew, I led a group of freshmen that were very outgoing and enthusiastic. We never talked in depth about any of the problems we were facing but nevertheless everyone had them. When I am overwhelmed I go talk to someone I trust; for most of my Link Crew group, I was that person. Although in the beginning I could not tell if I was making an impact, the way I acted and behaved in public was enough to demonstrate to my group that I was a trustworthy person. By the end of the year I could tell I was making a difference. Many came to me whenever they needed someone to listen and help. Although I could not make their decisions for them, I hoped that the guidance I offered was enough to help them through their problems. Leadership is to be shown, not dictated. I had to prove myself as trustworthy through leading by example. I feel gratified when I know that the little things I did to gain their trust eventually paid off.I show leadership in both my academics and extracurricular activities. Being a leader is an opportunity and an experience that is unique and different for each person. I have had the pleasure to help people both directly and indirectly through all the opportunities I have been given. I presented myself as a leader for my link crew kids so that they in turn would know they could trust me. The things I accomplish, even those that are not glorified, are done because of the fact that I took action to lead and do them. I lead to be a mentor. I lead to serve. I lead to get things done.
